Safety Discussions Forge Ahead Despite Pandemic

There was a brief and safe return to normalcy last week as Co-Chair Devon Carlock and Managing Director Michael Gerhardt virtually hosted the CDMCS Q3 Meeting in Washington, DC. It was another reminder of how nimble and adaptive the nation’s unified safety forum for the dredging and marine construction industry can be and of how COVID-19 has temporarily modified the way the council does business, but has certainly not stopped it. Like other businesses and organizations across the country, CDMCS has gone virtual but looks forward to returning to in-person meetings for all as soon as possible and in the safest manner.

From a robust discussion with 3M on confined space rescue to COVID-19 workplace resiliency and a national industry / U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) round-up on lessons learned and best practices, the agenda was timely and engaging for the more than 60 industry and USACE representatives. Special thanks to speakers Dr. Northrop and Jim Marinucci of Integrated Health engineers, Forrest Ray of Manson Construction Co., Al Wong of USACE, and Steve Kosch of 3M for making it an all around excellent, informative session.

Check the member portal for all the presentations, and we’ll see you on November 18 for the Q4 and the announcement of the CDMCS 3rd Annual Leadership in Safety Awards recipients.
